Oversampling: 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 4x by default. Our own linear-phase half-band design, with the same latency at every setting.

The announcement

RONE PLUGINS releases RONE Clipper, a free hard clipper that shows what it cuts

RONE Clipper is free. It needs a free RONE account and the free RONE Plugins Center app, which installs, updates and unlocks it, on up to 2 computers. No card, no trial.

RONE Clipper is a hard clipper built around one question: what did it just take off? The WAVE view draws the signal before the clipper in grey, after it in white, and what was cut in blue, so every clipped peak is visible as it happens. PEAKS shows the history, DETAIL zooms in to the sample level on the strongest clip, and FREEZE holds the picture.

The default window is the graph, one CLIP knob and LOW CUT. LOW CUT keeps kick and bass out of the clipper: the lows are split off before it and added back unclipped, and whatever the clipper itself adds below the knob is removed with a linear-phase filter. DELTA plays only what the clipper takes off. ADVANCED adds INPUT and OUTPUT faders, oversampling from 1x to 16x (4x by default, our own linear-phase half-band design, with the same latency at every setting) and AUTO GAIN.

RONE Clipper runs as VST3, AU and Standalone on Windows (64-bit) and macOS 10.15 or later (Intel and Apple Silicon). Current version: 1.0.1.

QUESTIONS

What writers ask

Why does a free plugin need an account and an app?

The RONE Plugins Center installs RONE Clipper, keeps it up to date and unlocks it with the account. The installer on its own opens the plugin locked, so please link to the product page rather than to an installer file.

Does it need an internet connection?

To sign up, install and sign in. After that it keeps working offline for up to 90 days between checks.

What does “up to 2 computers” mean?

One account unlocks RONE Clipper on two computers at a time. Signing out of the Center frees that computer’s place, and the account page can release a computer you no longer use.

Is there a Mac version?

Yes: macOS 10.15 or later, Intel and Apple Silicon, as VST3, AU and Standalone. The installers are not Apple-notarized yet, so if the first launch is blocked, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and press Open Anyway next to the message about the blocked app.

And on Windows?

64-bit Windows, as VST3 and Standalone. The installers are not code-signed yet: if SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info and then Run anyway.

How is it removed?

On Windows, uninstall RONE Clipper (RONE) in Settings → Apps → Installed apps. On a Mac, delete RONE Clipper.vst3 and RONE Clipper.component from /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins (the VST3 and Components folders) and RONE Clipper.app from Applications.
