About RONE 2A
RONE 2A is an optical leveling amplifier: the slow, smooth compressor that makes a vocal or a bass sit still without sounding squeezed. It has two knobs. PEAK REDUCTION sets how much it levels, GAIN sets the level after it, and a switch picks LIMIT or COMPRESS.
An optical unit eases into loud passages and lets go gradually, so the leveling follows the phrase rather than every transient. The VU meter shows gain reduction, or the output at +10 or +4.
Press SCOPE and a screen opens under the unit with the output wave and the gain reduction drawn on your DAW's bar - you see how it rides a vocal line or a pad across the whole bar, not just a needle.
Its sound was fitted to measurements of the classic hardware. VST3, AU and Standalone, on Windows and macOS.

One switch: COMPRESS for gentle leveling, LIMIT for a firmer hold on the peaks.

Sitting still in the mix
COMPRESS, then turn PEAK REDUCTION up until the needle sits a few dB down on the loud lines. GAIN brings the level back. Open SCOPE to see the line stay level across the bar.

Smooth, not squashed
On a sustained bass, a little PEAK REDUCTION evens the notes out. Check the output on the VU at +4.

Glue that breathes
Put it on the pads and atmospheres, switch to LIMIT and ride PEAK REDUCTION until the loudest chords stop poking out. The scope shows the release following the bar.
